We've received feedback that it's not clear that the post link will go to a single post view with comments. Let's add a bubble icon with the post comment count, to give a better hint.

@drw158 if we want a comment count next/in the bubble I think we might need a bit of design work. I imagine some really active posts have 100s or 1000s of comments.

We can just do the bubble first if that is faster. I'll start designing the bubble count now.

The space is more limited than I thought, but here are 2 mockups:

I didn't consider adding a comment count at first, but I do think it would be helpful. Here is what WP Admin has:

(gray count is approved, red count is pending)

I don't think having 2 counts is necessary and it's a bit confusing. I'm not sure what our count should represent, but I think approved would be most helpful.

On the other hand, another option, which I am leaning more towards now, is to not do the comments count, since we will have the counts in the tabs at some point.
