We've received a few reports from users who've noticed a sudden spike in views that don't match up to the number of visitors they've received.

For example, one report noted they've received 15k+ views on the 23rd June, but only had 134 visitors on that day.

Further details and internal reports here:

  • p56BUd-jE-p2
  • p56BUd-jf-p2

In more than of the above cases, the users have noted that the views aren't displaying in Google Analytics.

It seems likely that we're including hits from bots in the views. It'd be great to filter these in a similar way to Google Analytics.

I'd like to re-open this for now because we got a report from another user regarding an odd spike in stats on one day (Feb 21st 2020), which looks likely to have been a bot.

Ticket: 2740257-zen.

The ticket notes contain a link to the Slack thread where this was originally asked about, but there were no replies there, so after a little hunting, it looks like this is the best place to drop information about this kind of issue.

I don't think the user's worried about the spike as such (I wasn't the person who they originally spoke to, I only landed on the ticket), but it'd be good to give them some information.
