Consider Post/Page preview functionality #57304
Comments
Let's use this thread to track any customer interactions where there is still confusion or trouble with the 'Preview in new Tab' portion of the preview. Any issues with the native Gutenberg preview should reported there: |
31869161-hc / 4406652-zen User thinks that the Preview in New Tab item should cause the preview to use the corresponding viewport (ie if they are in desktop preview, they get a desktop preview, and if they are in mobile preview, they get a mobile preview in the new tab). When I first used the Preview in New Tab feature, I thought the same thing. It would be nice if there were an option to preview in new tab using a mobile viewport. |
Tagging @Automattic/flow-patrol-create - this is a feature request, but I know that group has been looking at the preview and would want to be aware of this. |
We got feedback from a user:

Have another user that is not at all happy about having to preview mobile and tablet on the editor overlay, and wants to be able to preview that actual page in various screen sizes. 32516901-zen |
Have another report of a user who is very unhappy about the changes here: 32187143-hc |
Another user prefers the old preview as well. They have found that they can access the old preview by clicking the three dots next to the post title, but would prefer that it was readily available in the post. 4436607-zen |
As an encouragement, we have an update coming to Gutenberg that will extend the preview menu - WordPress/gutenberg#36119 Once that is approved and published we can adjust the preview options with greater control and build a solution that is much more functional. |
Another user reported the preview is not working as expected: 25478233-hc |
What
This is a stub/thread to discuss options with the native gutenberg post preview + new tab preview

The recent move to use Gutenberg's native preview and add the 'Preview in new Tab' option at the bottom is in some cases a less ideal experience for users. It is a 'moved the cheese' situation where the previous functionality showed a full page preview (with header/footer) by default - but that functionality is now behind the 'Preview in New Tab' item.
There are various HE reports indicating confused users - but this is predominantly solved by guiding them to preview in a separate tab.
