I'm not a huge fan of this feature (other than the mod in general :)). It's convenient in some situations but some people are using it over /die, even as babies in their mothers' arms, which is surely not what you intended, because it doesn't reset the birth cooldown and give lineage ban as /die does.

So I'd suggest to disable it for babies or even get rid of it completely.

Instant death was a feature much before the /DIE command ever existed. It's even been suggested that the mod's old instant suicide ability is what gave birth to an official /DIE command & re-connections to disconnected sessions.

Personally, I've only used this feature when trying to twin with friends and one (or more) of us gets neglected. While I don't particularly subscribe to the "suicide until satisfied" style of playing, many others do and they'll continue to play that way regardless of a suicide feature being in the mod or not. So I plan to keep the feature, simply for that convenience factor, and disabling it for babies wouldn't necessarily prevent them from killing themselves (as history has shown.)

If Jason changed the servers to not instantly kill on malformed MOVE messages, then the current instant suicide method would stop working again. So that's one way you could attempt to "fix" the issue permanently.

Keep in mind that I don't try to "force" anyone to play in any specific way. However, I could "mix" the two options and have the client send the /DIE command if the necessary restrictions are met or instantly kill otherwise. That way the same hotkey could be used to achieve the same end-goal.

That would be a good compromise. Thanks for your explanation! I see why this is convenient for Eves or lone males. Does Jason know about the malformed MOVE messages?

It appears that Jason has granted your wish(es) with the following commit:

jasonrohrer@5c94784

On the next client update, I'll go ahead and revert the Shift+DEL hotkey back to a shortcut for triggering /DIE (with all of its accompanying preconditions.)
