Do you have download numbers for installs through chocolatey?
If it is a common install path, we can consider increasing the priority of the above issue.

To continue the discussion here, I thought I would repeat my response here:

The downloads stats for that package can be seen on the package page here:

https://chocolatey.org/packages/azure-cli

Which is not a small number by any means.

Does this help influence the decision? Given that a community package already exists, the amount of work required to take it over would be minimal, and definitely something that we could help getting you set up with.

At the time of writing this comment, there have been 294,470 downloads of the azure-cli using Chocolatey.

@derekbekoe There are examples of other teams in Microsoft taking ownership of packages that are pushed to chocolatey.org. For example, the team between vswhere maintain this package:

Thanks for the comments.
I'll discuss with the team on how this fits in with our overall install strategy.

@derekbekoe I just wanted to reach out to see if you had had chance to speak to the team about this. If you need any further information, please feel free to reach out.

@gep13 I did. It's not a high priority item for us right now but we're going to keep this issue open so it can be addressed in the future.

@derekbekoe I understand. Hopefully the community will continue to keep this package updated in the meantime.

One thing that I would like to point out, which might help with prioritisation...

I recently learned that the VSTS team is using Chocolatey to help create the baseline images that are used for their build agents (I stumbled across this information via a Stack Overflow question here , and after talking with the team, the documentation was updated to reflect that Chocolatey is available already installed on the build agents).

The reason that I bring this up is that I did a quick test to see what packages are installed on the baseline image using Chocolatey, and it turns out that azure-cli is one of those packages. You can see it in the list of packages here:

Which was generated by running the command choco list -lo on the build agent.

We do not plan to support Chocolatey. There is a third-party providing Chocolatey builds. I am closing this issue.

@tjprescott while this is true, we (i.e. Chocolatey and it's community) like it when the packaged software is owned and maintained by the people that write the underlying software. Perhaps one day we can come back and re-visit this request, especially when we can see that the equivalent Homebrew package is being maintained by yourselves:
