Issue summary

Steps to reproduce

If you are having difficulty building Caffe or training a model, please ask the caffe-users mailing list. If you are reporting a build error that seems to be due to a bug in Caffe, please attach your build configuration (either Makefile.config or CMakeCache.txt) and the output of the make (or cmake) command.

Your system configuration

I have the following system configuration:

Operating system:UBUNTU 16.04(64-bit)
Intle Core i7- 4790 CPU @ 3.60 GHz*8, RAM 32G
CUDA version:8
CuDNN verion:V5
GPU: GTX 1080/PCIe/SSE2
Python: 2.7
Caffe: BVLC, 1.0.0-rc3
DIGITS: 5.1-dev

My problem is that when I use DIGITS to train a network on GPU like this one:

network: AlexNet initialised by weights from ImageNet training
train data: 1566 images of size 244244
validation : 198 images of size 244
244

for any batch sizes I use, the system freezes. The GPU works but the desktop of CPU is frozen and I have to reboot the system.

What is the problem?
