I have two windows open. If I use window 1 to rename a file that is opened in window 2, the file will not be renamed but a new file is created and the unrenamed file is still there.

While multi-tab editing kinda works when using different files, and there is a warning when you are editing the same file in two different tabs, not all behaviours are multi-tab safe. As we are working towards a major redesign, I'd suggest you avoid these edge cases because the effort that would go towards fixing them is probably better spent elsewhere.
