One would assume that if the xml header contains "nbLaps" that this would get read properly. Apparently not though?

XML is just a form of description that does not affect the map behavior, except the map browser. NbLaps on the ParseHeader side reads from a header chunk 0x002 v13+.

XML is considered standalone as there are different XML variants across TM versions.

In case of modification - you have to modify it additionally. Additional XML modification would require usage of XML serializers which add a 6MB bloat for NativeAOT, which i find unacceptable, so it would be a sub-library feature in the future maybe.
