Since the idea behind a snap package is that it is confined, it doesn't have access to many parts of the system unless explicitly allowed. This would be very easy to solve by simply allowing read only access to the personal files as mentioned here: https://snapcraft.io/docs/personal-files-interface

However, being able to access user files is already quite a huge permission I think, even if it is read only. Therefore I am not sure whether this should be done or not. On the other hand, on all other systems and with all other ways of installation cordless expects this anyway.

Since users wouldn't want to be able to access only pre-defined folders (defined by me), this snap would have to be a classic snap, which means fully unconfined. This has to be requested and approved by the snap team. I am not entirely sure whether this would get and approved and whether I'd like it. Anyway, maybe it can be optionally classic.
