Satellite Network Update on July 12, 2023

Blockstream Satellite edited this page Jul 6, 2023 · 2 revisions

On July 12, 2023, at 13:00 UTC, the C-band signal transmitted over the Telstar 18V (T18V) satellite will move to a new frequency. Hence, users in the Asia-Pacific region covered by this signal will need to upgrade the CLI and reconfigure the receiver to continue with the reception. Users covered by the other signals (including the T18V Ku-band signal) do not need to take any action but may update the CLI to benefit from the latest features and bug fixes.

The required CLI software upgrade will be made available on the referred date, July 12, 2023, by 11:00 UTC (two hours in advance). Please, check back around this time and proceed with the following steps in preparation for the network upgrade at 13:00 UTC.

To download the upgraded CLI version, run the following:

sudo pip3 install blocksat-cli --upgrade

Next, verify that the CLI has the new version by running the following:

blocksat-cli --version

The result should be blocksat-cli 0.4.6.

Next, proceed with the receiver-specific instructions given below. Please note that regardless of your receiver type, you should see the following logs when executing the CLI for the first time after the upgrade:

INFO Updating the T18V C DL frequency from 4053.83 MHz to 4057.4 MHz

SDR Receiver

If you are running an SDR receiver, relaunch the receiver to continue with the reception:

blocksat-cli sdr

TBS USB Receiver

If you are using a TBS 5927 or TBS 5520SE USB receiver, stop the receiver and relaunch it by running:

blocksat-cli usb launch

Novra S400 Standalone Receiver

If you are using a Novra S400 standalone receiver (pro kit receiver), run the following command to reconfigure the receiver:

blocksat-cli standalone cfg --rx-only

After that, you can confirm the S400 locks to the new frequency by relaunching the monitoring tool:

blocksat-cli standalone monitor
