Satellite Network Update on March 3, 2023

Blockstream Satellite edited this page Feb 24, 2023 · 1 revision

On March 3, 2023, at 18:00 UTC, the signal transmitted over the Galaxy 18 satellite will move to a new frequency. Hence, users covered by this satellite (in North and Central America) will need to upgrade the CLI and reconfigure the receiver to continue with the reception. Users covered by the other satellites do not need to take any action.

The required CLI software upgrade will be made available on the referred date, March 3, 2023, by 16:00 UTC (two hours in advance). So check back around this time and proceed with the following steps in preparation for the network upgrade at 18:00 UTC.

To download the upgraded CLI version, run the following:

sudo pip3 install blocksat-cli --upgrade

Next, verify that the CLI has the new version by running the following:

blocksat-cli --version

The result should be blocksat-cli 0.4.5.

Next, proceed with the receiver-specific instructions given below. Please note that regardless of your receiver type, you should see the following logs when executing the CLI for the first time after the upgrade:

INFO Updating the G18 DL frequency from 12016.4 MHz to 11913.4 MHz

SDR Receiver

If you are running an SDR receiver, relaunch the receiver to continue with the reception:

blocksat-cli sdr

TBS USB Receiver

If you are using a TBS 5927 or TBS 5520SE USB receiver, first, you will need to redefine the channel configuration file:

blocksat-cli cfg channel

Answer "Y" to remove and regenerate the configuration file.

Next, relaunch the receiver:

blocksat-cli usb launch

Novra S400 Standalone Receiver

If you are using a Novra S400 standalone receiver (pro kit receiver), run the following command to reconfigure the receiver:

blocksat-cli standalone cfg --rx-only

After that, you can confirm the S400 locks to the new frequency by relaunching the monitoring tool:

blocksat-cli standalone monitor

Selfsat>IP22 Sat-IP Receiver (Satellite Base Station)

If you are using the Satellite Base Station receiver, relaunch the Sat-IP client to continue with the reception:

blocksat-cli sat-ip
