... I think you are underestimating the size of the portable software audience. Bear in mind, too, that the "bigger audience" target is relative: Significantly, there are other factors to take into consideration, such as the huge convenience and productiveness offered by portable software. Simply copying an app over onto, for e.g., a small memory stick, and then carry it along whenever and wherever it needs to be ported to, presumably attracts a huge audience too, and therefore ought to be treated of equally-weighted importance. As far as signing the distribution, I have yet to see a warning triggered on one of the portable packages I have had installed over decades of utilising multiple installations of PC software. There are other safeguards available to the user, not?
