Thanks for submitting this helpful fix. Unfortunately I've moved out of my unit which uses SmartRent, so I won't be able to test or contribute any further, and therefore I'll be archiving this repository, but not before merging. I encourage anyone to fork this and build it out a bit more

Fixes #4: Read handlers not responding / plugin slowing down Homebridge. (Also fixes #5, a dupe.)
