It would be nice to see an indicator say "Core Module" on the search results page.

however, as the list of core modules is changing just as perl is, it would/could need something like this:

  • Module has always been a core module: Very bold symbol "Core"
  • Module has been a core module in some versions of perl: half-transparent symbol "Core" with dropdown stating the versions it shipped with

The final solution may be somewhere along these lines...

I've just discussed the issue with some of the core team developers of MetaCPAN and most of the opinions were that it's kind of misleading. Basically that's because the version which you are currently browsing (reading the documentation of), could be not the core version which is shipped with Perl.

Another idea was to include a link to core version of the module. However different versions of Perl are shipped with different core versions and that would be also misleading (or all links should be included).

No one has come forward to do this, closing as part of the great issue cull of Dec 2013
