This has been verified here in this Data Set, as well as via this Wiki Page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:2019%E2%80%9320_coronavirus_pandemic_data/United_States_medical_cases

Yesterday I caught this and tried to verify that it was Backlogged Deaths. I found nothing at the site:
https://coronavirus.iowa.gov/
I also found nothing via Google News, but I saw that typically the news reporting out of Iowa is a day behind, so I waited until this morning and saw this:
https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/2021/04/04/iowa-department-of-public-health-reports-68-covid-19-deaths-431-cases-update-coronavirus-pandemic/7063663002/
"The jump in the number of deaths reported appears to be catch-up on previous deaths added to the state's tally."

Please note that the sentence that follows the previous sentence, is inaccurate:
"The state was reporting 15 recorded deaths for April 4."
The value of "15" is most likely a 14 Day Rolling Average Reading for that day on the Iowa Gov Site chart, and the true, daily chart death count for that day is 0, as it is for the last several days (probably due to lack of updating).

Please note that when the Des Moines Register says "Sunday" there, it really was reported/tallied on Saturday here (JHU CSSEGIS & via Wiki), as described in the Heading and it isn't a mistake in this Post. As mentioned, The Register is a day behind.

... I wish I could provide more info at this time, but I can't.

| "The Iowa Department of Public Health reported another 68 deaths caused by the virus. The state regularly reports deaths on a delay, taking days and weeks to add deaths publicly after a verification process."

Hello,

This is very useful, thank you. It is difficult to definitively conclude that these are backlogged without confirmation from the state health department which we are unable to find publicly. We will reach out to the state health department for confirmation and update this issue when a response has been received.

Hello @JustaNormalGuy230 - we have received confirmation from the Iowa Department of Health that a large number of these deaths were identified through a death certificate review process. We will be adding a note to our README. Thanks for notifying of this several weeks ago.
