As of December 21, the Denmark COVID-19 Dashboard is now publishing case totals that include reinfections. The dashboard is publishing two values for cases, one which includes reinfections ("Bekræftede tilfælde i alt") and one that does not ("Bekræftede tilfælde"). We have chosen to publish the case total which includes infections for two reasons:
The COVID-19 death data published on the Denmark COVID-19 Dashboard is inclusive of reinfections. Excluding reinfections from the case total would result in there being individuals who have sadly passed away as being counted as a COVID-19 death but not as a COVID-19 case.
Numerous US states have been incorporating reinfections based on the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) definition. Including these for Denmark increases the comparability of the data between locations.
For Denmark, a reinfection is an individual who has received two positive PCR results at least 61 days apart. For reference, the CSTE definition being used by US states requires an individual two have two positive tests (either PCR or other) at least 90 days apart.
The dashboard does unfortunately not include a time series where the reinfections can be incorporated by date of report, so they will produce a small spike in cases. The first value of reinfections (on December 21) was 7,521. #5093 incorporated the reinfection data for December 21, 22, and 23.
