dev branch became really slow #101

not sure what happened, but the dev branch became really slow to load and run sometime in the last 24 hours.

So I created a new branch: last_known_good_before_market from a commit prior to the slowdown.
I merged that into main.

Now we have a couple of conflicted branches.
