Walrus is an open source implementation of Amazon's S3 API that allows institutions to run their own private cloud. OSF already provides an option to link an S3 storage account to projects, and it seems to me that this functionality could be more generalized and allow private Eucalyptus-based clouds to be tied to projects as well.
This would be useful in cases where universities operate their own cloud services complementary to AWS, as in the Aristotle Cloud Federation (Cornell, SUNY Buffalo, UCSB), which uses Eucalyptus.
