I was first thinking that the "upload" button on instances that don't allow user registration is a bug and maybe it is, but it can actually be transformed into a feature.

I suggest leaving the button there but when clicked it should take the user to a page (local page, not external) that says:

Currently this instance doesn't allow for user registration, but you can find an instance that gives you the possibility to sign up for an account and to upload your videos. The list of linstances can be accessed here (link)
