I tried to use version 2.11 1st time hacking. It didn't work. So I read on here to try 2.9 so it worked. I could only put 90 games total before I get the C8 error. Anyway. I read on here someone else has the same issue I have with 2.11 "access to the path desktop\hakchi2 2\temp\kernel\initramfs\bin\choot is denied please try again." This is when I synchronize the games. So someone said to use the 2.7 version & then 2.11 version & I did But I still get the same error "access to path denied" I would like to put more than 90 games but I can't figure it out. Any help will be appreciated.

I'm trying to make a new setting where you can define the temp file location. I'm about halfway done with the code modification.

issue I have with 2.11 "access to the path desktop\hakchi2 2\temp\kernel\initramfs\bin\choot is denied please try again. how do u fix it ???????

I'm experiencing a similar problem. I used the Hakchi2 version 2.11 and it originally worked fine, was able to load 46 additional games which gave me total of 76 including the 30 games the NES mini came with. A couple of days later I decided to remove a couple of the games I had added as well as add another 20 or 25 games. Unfortunately, when I tried to use Hakchi2 version 2.11 the second time I ran into issues. Everything was all set identical to the first time I used the program to add games the first time (when it worked great) except this time when I clicked the Synchronize selected games with NES mini button a bubble popped up asking me to "Dump the kernel image of my NES mini and that I only had to do this once and would I like to continue" so I clicked yes. Right after I clicked yes an error bubble popped up which said "C:\users\owner\desktop\data\fes1.bin not found. Please try again." Yet when I check the Hakchi2 2.11 file and click data file the fes1.bin is sitting right there. So I'm pretty confused as to what I should do to resolve this matter. I've been researching this issue but can't seem to find an answer and I'm sure it's probably a easy fix it's just a fix I've yet to find. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

@Prize9000 I was going thru the same issues... I don't remember what I did to fix the issue. but right off the bat when I wanted to add games I used 2.11. I was getting the error access to the path desktop\hakchi2 2\temp\kernel\initramfs\bin\choot is denied. I read somewhere on here to try hackchi 2.9 or 2.7 and it worked. It only let me add 90 games including the original 30. If I added anymore I would get a C8 error. for some reason when I used the 2.7 or 2.9 version I got a dump or a temp folder on my desktop. & I had renamed them to "temp1" or "dump1" So I also read that after you use 2.7 or 2.9 version to go try the 2.11 version. So I did. and I was getting some errors again. might be the fes1.bin error your getting but I don't exactly remember. I re-named the dump1 or the temp1 folder to its original name: either temp or dump. then I tried 2.11 again & it worked. I don't exactly know what I did. I recommend you download 2.11 again & unzip the files & start fresh from a new zip download file of hackchi 2.11 because that's what I remember in reading too & I gave it a shot..

@ TruMusic, Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it later today after work. If the 2.9 version works I'll just stick with it for now because I'm only looking to have a total of around 84-85 games total including the 30 originals. Especially if it lets me go back and delete games and add new ones multiple times without any glitches. One last question... Do I need to delete the 2.11 version and all of my downloaded NES roms or do I just add version 2.9 and simply run it? Thanks again for your recommendation. Much appreciated.

@TruMusic, Did version 2.9 fix your NES mini's sound as well? My NES mini has good sound on some games but other games it breaks up and fades in and out. Not too worried as long as the games all work but getting the sound issue corrected would be a nice bonus. Haha but I don't wanna push my luck considering I'm not the best when it comes to computers.

Hakchi version 2.9 allowed me to dump kernel but it said MD5 checksum is unknown. Continue at your own risk. So you want to continue yes or no. Since I noticed it made the red power LED light on NES go on I clicked no to not continue because when I originally loaded games onto my NES mini using version 2.11 the red power LED light on my NES mini was off which it's suppose to be (at least it is on version 2.11). Can the red power LED be on using version 2.9? Should I have just clicked yes to continue at my own risk with power light on?

@Prize9000 yeah just click yes when it asks about the MD5. I remember getting that message too & i just clicked yes

@Prize9000 I never had any issues with the sound with the 2.9 version.. but once again I only maybe tried 2.9 to see if I could get the extra games on there.. I don't think I ever tested any games. But once I did get the games on there I immediately tried the 2.11 version.

@Prize9000 I was also afraid to brick my system with all that I did with the 2.7, 2.9 & 2.11 versions in trying to figure it all out but It didn't brick.

@Prize9000 good luck on it hope you figure it all out.. As I did. It all looked easy but when I started getting the errors mentioned above... but I don't remember exactly step by step on what I did... but I got it all figured out eventually lol. I managed to get all the NES collection on my NES Mini

Thank you very much, TruMusic. I did click yes and I was able to continue to sync, however, it didn't remove the games I wanted to remove nor add the games I wanted to add. It was only 84 total games including the original 30. Pretty puzzling considering I went through the process it looked like and acted like it was adding games but didn't, I still have all the same games on there from version 2.11 yet my hakchi2 version 2.9 box showed all 84 games I wanted to add. So I got my hopes up again and failed again. I'm shocked at all this because it worked so wonderfully the first time with version 2.11 over a week ago and it's been a struggle ever since. I'll keep trying to see what happens. I can't thank you enough for your help.

@Prize9000 no problem.. I read somewhere on here that they recommended keeping the original 30 games on there... so that's what I did... eventhou your not gonna play some of them...

@Prize9000 I bought a spare nes classic to sell. I posted it on craigslist... I sold it this last Sunday, hacked with all the nes library on it. Yeah I had issues where It didn't want to add any games to it... I ended up just giving them my system that was hacked & I kept theirs, he kept the new unboxed controller & cables.. I dunno again what I did but I figured it all out again... maybe try going back to 2.11 see what happens.

@Prize9000

@TruMusic, I'm going to try going back to the 2.11 version to see what happens. Nice score! Someone got a killer little NES mini without the trouble of hacking. Everyone else seems to be able to hack into it and out of it and add hundreds of games and delete games and here I am sitting here just trying to get the 54 games I want on it to go along with the original 30 which would give me 84 total games which I would be thrilled with. I'll keep trying. See what happens with 2.11 again. Good thing I'm stubborn. Haha

TruMusic, I went back to version 2.11 and got the same old Fes1.bin not found error message. So now I guess I'm back to trying 2.9 but I guess I could give version 2.10 a shot or 2.7... idk. But now I'm getting confused with this kernel stuff. Wish I knew this program would screw with me so bad. I would have made sure I got it right the first time two weeks ago but everyone kept saying ohh you can just keep on adding and deleting games very easily... just follow the simple steps on the screen (which I did until the simple steps turned into error message). I'll have to give it a rest for tonight and give it a shot tomorrow and hope for better luck. I wouldn't have gotten as far as I did today without you, that's for sure. It means a lot my friend. Maybe I try version 2.7 tomorrow morning.

Maybe I have to uninstall kernel and reinstall it again?

Prize9000 commented Feb 8, 2017

@TruMusic, Just tried version 2.10 and got the usual Fes1.bin not found (even though it's sitting right in Hakchi2's files)just like I get when I try version 2.11. Tried to use version 2.7 but it wasn't letting click and drag my unzipped NES roms into the add more games list. So at this point idk if I need to uninstall kernel or if I need to just completely delete everything on the NES mini somehow (if it allows me too). Would probably have to re-try the 2.9 version again since that's the only version that hasn't given me the "fes1.bin not found". So I might have to delete kernel and/or clean out the data on my NES mini and then hope version 2.9 allows me to finally sync my new games list to NES mini. What is driving me crazy is that it's probably something very simple that I'm not doing that is holding me up but since I have little to no clue what could be causing these issues I'll have to just try to above option or wait until I can find some answers via many more hours of research. Ugh! Wish I could talk to @ClusterM but he's got thousands of people shaking him down for help so I'm gonna have to keep winging it.

@Prize9000 yeah only 2.11 version lets you do the zip files not the 2.7 version. You will have to unzip the files manually. I also read somewhere that you have to be the computer admin too & not logged in as a user or a guest. That might be your issue too

@Prize9000
Copy link

I unzipped the NES rom files manually and put them in a folder titled "NES unzipped" and version 2.7 wouldn't let me click and drag the unzipped NES rom files into the add more games section of the 2.7 pimp tool. I'll make sure I'm not logged and that nobody is logged as user or guest in as user on wife's laptop (the unit I'm using for this). I'm pretty sure it's good but will definitely check to be 100%. More great help. ;-)

@Prize9000 you can't drag the files into hackchi you have to click on add games then navigate to the folder "NES Unzipped"

@Prize9000

Okay, I'll try that. Maybe that's been the problem. I'll try version 2.7 and hope it works since I only have 88 games total which includes the original 30. I'll give it a shot.

Prize9000 commented Feb 8, 2017

@TruMusic I was able to get version 2.7 working, at least I thought it was working but right when it got to the end of game syncing a nasty little bubble popped up and said "specified file not found. Please try again". UGHHH! I added the games via Add More Games just like you said (no click dragging) and I was like starting to get excited and boom "Specified file not found. Please try again". It didn't tell me what specified file it can't find. This really shouldn't be that difficult. Seems to work splendid for just about everyone else. People got 600, 700, 800 games... All I want are 88 including the original 30. However, I will say I seem to get a little further every time thanks to your help.

Just tired version 2.9 again and it keeps telling me "c:\users\owner\desktop\data\Fes1.bin not found. Please try again." Same old error messages over and over again on all versions. I do not have a user name registered on this windows 7 laptop nor am I signed into it as a guest. The "Fes1.bin" is sitting there in the Hakchi2 file folder. I do not understand why every single time I try to sync my games it cannot find it. Sooo frustrating. I feel like I've tried just about everything but I know I haven't because everyone else is getting their games no problem and I'm not so I guess I'll keep trying until I'm blue in the face. You've been a huge help and I am truly grateful for all of your help and time.

So with 2.11 i was getting "access to the path temp\kernel\initramfs\bin\chroot is denied please try again." when i compiled from source. Weirdly, if i downloaded the 2.11 release then swapped in the exe it runs fine....

Success! I was able to hack back in using version 2.11 and as long as I don't try to run the Hakchi file from my desktop. I have to leave it in my downloads folder and run it directly from there it works perfectly. I want to thank TruMusic again for your all of your help and support. I've truly learned something by hanging in there and finally getting this right with some serious guidance. Now I have 112 games (with the option to add plenty more) on my NES Mini and they all work good with save states. Game on! 😃
