I need python-2.7.5, openssl, and sqlite for some python code I have.

Is there anyway to update the python source?

There is not technical issue to move to 2.7.5, just some times needed. You can
try to apply the Python Android patch against 2.7.5 tree and check what's
rejected.

Out of interest, what's new in Python 2.7.5 (compare to 2.7.2) that would makes
it mandatory ?
