Looks like there's a FFGenerateThumbnailsDuringPlayback key in the Preferences seperate from the FFScrollDuringPlayback preference.

Toggling Scroll timeline continuously during playback seems to turn off both.

It could be handy to add an action that turns off the scrolling timeline, but keeps generating thumbnails during playback.
