I've been struggling with manual captioning in FCP Pro. So, I started looking for alternative captioning methods since 2021. I tried YouTube's auto-transcribe feature, but it's time-consuming. Then, I came across Descript and transferred the SRT file to FCP, but I still had to manually edit the SRT and convert it into a title format. Later, I tried Captionator after purchasing it, hoping it would improve my captioning process. Unfortunately, it performed poorly, so I ended up manually creating the captions again and had to request a refund for Captionator.
In my search for another solution, I found Whisper, but it only supports SRT files and lacks the ability to customize the number of lines or words per caption. Continuing my search, I discovered CapCut! Now, I create my auto-captions using CapCut. After editing in FCP, I export the video to CapCut, apply auto-captions, add a green screen background behind the captions, and export the final captions, and import it again in FCP. This process is time-consuming. It's interesting that CapCut offers auto-captioning, unlike FCP. Other video editing software like Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, and Filmora have this feature. It's puzzling why FCP hasn't implemented it yet.
I strongly desire a built-in transcription and auto-captioning feature in FCP. This would significantly assist editors in their work, especially considering the growing demand for such features on social media platforms. Having built-in transcription and auto-captioning would be a valuable addition to FCP's editors.
