There are many options to try and stay tuned into what's happening in the forums. However, one critical feature that's missing is a digest. This could function as something of a newsletter-style feature that helps members of the community know what's being discussed in the forums, and in a way that best suits them.
Non-technical users will not adopt most other options currently being used, such as Slack and Discord. This is fracturing the ability of all relevant community members to participate in critical decisions and discussions that will directly impact their businesses and/or their customers.
Enhancing visibility will not only improve awareness overall in the community, but it can help to increase engagement and visibility to so many topics we regularly worry about in the DNN ecosystem.
Describe the solution you'd like
Have options for Daily, Weekly, and Monthly digests as a configurable option. Each will be able to be enabled/disabled. in the Control Panel.
When enabled, there should be a UI element that end-users can see to subscribe and unsubscribe to receive or not receive the emails.
In each, there should be a listing of the top 5-10 topics being discussed. The topics that show up should take into account all metrics we can measure, and maybe piggyback the What's New forum logic too. Those metrics could include, views, likes, responses, and topic rating (if it stays).
We'll need to include a new template into the template system that's specific to emails. A token of some kind should be there that allows end-users to return to the website to unsubscribe from the digest. So the view needs its own landing "page" in DNN.
The emails would continue to be sent using DNN's SMTP API.
Describe alternatives you've considered
None yet.
Additional context
