Modbus GPIO stops polling after few days

I have a Modbus GPIO device running as Modbus GPIO.
It works for a few days.
But rivendell 'loses' connection with the device after a few days.
In the messages I see some 'lost connection' and 'reconnects' when I disconnect the network cable.
But not after what is described above.
I can restart the connection by either : 'systemctl restart rivendell', or 'open the gpio-config and click ok'
The modbus device is a king pigeon M160T

I have had sporadic reports of similar (using SeaLevel SeaIO interfaces), but have never been able to reproduce.
