I am forced to use AFS (and thus OpenAFS) in my university, and I honestly think the software is awful. As a Mac user, I really have a problem with a client that forces you to install kernel-level stuff into your system. The client itself has a very noticeable effect on the performance of my MacBook Pro (one of the latest models), which is something that definitely should not happen. Moreover, the configuration of an OpenAFS client is a nightmare, very far from intuitive, and that is something for me since I worked with UNIX administration and am much more comfortable with managing NFS volumes for example.
