That works. Problem is, when you update your Rocky/Alma install to 9.3 the system fails to boot.

edit /etc/yum.conf and add line
exclude=grub2-* shim kernel kernel-*
maybe even just exclude grub will be enough to survive updates

Just excluding grub2 works. Time will tell when that becomes a problem...

Hey, thought I'd post here a bug report that is likely related to this boot issue: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2263369.

I installed Almalinux 9 on a few hetzner machines and a system update preventing proper booting as stated by users. What resolved this issue for me was to change out this line in /boot/efi/EFI/almalinux/grub.cfg:
search --no-floppy --root-dev-only --fs-uuid --set=dev <uuid> to search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=dev <uuid>

Only time will tell if this can be considered a permanent fix or if this needs to be reapplied on every grub update.
