Why not let "created" until this parameter is operational? It is rather embarrassing to see a search result so far (because a correction has just been made) while the article was written 7 years ago...

Actually most appropriate is not "created" either,

  • as you may create an item on 5 of month and publish it 4 days later

most appropriate is
publish_up and and then if publish_up is not set then use created

You're right! But it's better than modified...
