VDR backend does not create a thumbnail after recording and then there is no thumb in Kodi.
Please let Kodi / VDR create a thumbnail with ffmpeg after recording.

That is a limitation of the current PVR api in Kodi. There will be a major change of the api in Kodi v18. Then thumbnails will be possible.
