Dependency on Ubuntu libappindicator #1127
Comments
For Mobian (Debian arm64) users, it is also an issue to install FreeTube because of libappindicator. It would be nice to make that an optional dependency, if possible, in the arm64 package. And: Thanks for your great work on FreeTube - It's nice to have that app running on my PinePhone. |
If Electron requires the dependency, there is not much we can do. But that would mean that all electron based applications will fail at once if they do not migrate in time |
Speaking for Mobian, libappindicator is not needed to use FreeTube, because libmpris is handling these functionalities in phosh. I removed the libappindicator dependency manually from the arm64 deb file and the installation went through without problems. |
Microsoft Teams (also Electron-based) has libappindicator as optional dependency (at least in AUR package) and works without. |
If it is possible to remove the dependency we can probably remove it as well |
I removed the dependency to libappindicator3-1 on debian 11 and everything seems fine. |
The upcoming Debian 11 "buster" release has deprecated
libappindicator
, see relevant bug report here; packages relying on its functionality are told to migrate tolibayatana-appindicator
.This is a known issue upstream, I don't know whether any action is necessary from FreeTube developers (aside from updating to the newest Electron when it drops 😉).
