I have searched the issue tracker for open and closed issues that are similar to the feature request I want to file, without success.
I have searched the documentation for information that matches the description of the feature request I want to file, without success.
This issue contains only one feature request.
Problem Description
The "Add to Playlist" UX is somewhat clunky at the moment due to its size, which is a very avoidable problem, in my professional opinion. Playlist thumbnails are perhaps useful for remote playlists where it advertises the type of content for outside observers, but user playlists are known & (presumably) meaningfully labeled divisions, and often far more variegated in the range of content contained.
Proposed Solution
By removing the thumbnails from the "Add to Playlist" UX, you greatly reduce the cognitive effort required for visual scanning, and you also reduce the large amount of movement & scrolling when someone has more than a small handful of playlists.
This will also require some UX changes to make it work, like reworking the "added" UX, stacking the items vertically, and reducing the width of the dialog. YT UX for reference.
Alternatives Considered
Do not implement this feature.
Issue Labels
ease of use improvement, visual improvement

[Feature Request]: Remove thumbnails from "Add to playlist" view

I think the value that they provide for user playlists is greatly outsized compared to the clunkiness they introduce. It an expensive solution that addresses the problem of no clear use case in particular:
Playlist thumbnails are perhaps useful for remote playlists where it advertises the type of content for outside observers, but user playlists are known & (presumably) meaningfully labeled divisions, and often far more variegated in the range of content contained.
I think thumbnails are useful for some playlists (copied from remote ones or created some time ago and not recently used), but not at this size. They could be 1/6 or 1/8 of the size and still be helpful, while not overshadowing the captions and other controls, and the caption could then be to the right of the thumbnail.
Part of the problem is that you can't change the font and thumbnail size separately.
