Add ability to merge input registers

In some instances, it may be desirable to merge traces of multiple inputs into a single register. For this to work, the inputs should be shifted in relation to each other (so that two inputs never appear at the same point of the trace).

Another consideration is how mask registers would work with such merged input registers.
