See #11692.

People really want to be able to install synergy with Homebrew, but various versions of it have various random bugs in the client or server, and I don't want to maintain old or multiple versions in Homebrew-core.

So, recommend we remove it from core.

Alternatively, MacPorts packages 1.3.8 with patches: https://trac.macports.org/browser/trunk/dports/sysutils/synergy/Portfile

Sounds reasonable. Would rather remove than patch forever. What about synergy-plus?

I don't synergy, so haven't heard of synergy-plus.

They've taken over maintaining Synergy (and have the homepage too) but have only released beta versions so far. Perhaps worth updating to one of them.

We have two alternatives here:

  1. Use the latest beta versions which build nicely: https://github.com/mikemcquaid/homebrew/commit/f13fc4
  2. Point people towards the well-packaged binaries: http://synergy-foss.org/download/?list

Either option sounds acceptable to me.

To anyone else who arrives at this issue via search engine and wants synergy via homebrew, it's now available as a cask.

@tonycpsu This is no longer the case.
