fatal: premature end of input

I have gone through all the possible troubleshooting I can think of, I have even removed all of Homebrew and reinstalled it, yet whenever I run brew update I receive this error:

fatal: premature end of input
Error: Failure while executing: git pull -q origin refs/heads/master:refs/remotes/origin/master

The "fatal: premature end of input" comes from git, not sure what to suggest, but it seems like it was probably a temporary github issue? Does this still happen?
