Actually, in the options menu it's an option called "remove anime" if you activate it it remove the girl, I always have it activated because, idk it just upsets me, About the background I think you can do it modifying te data? I didn't tried, but you can try it if you want

The homescreen main image is a tad over the top, yeah. You can use custom images for the background and each of the images that "remove anime" disables. You can find the images it uses in the source under the romfs folder so you know what sizes and positioning to use. Huntereb also made it possible to put in custom sounds for the audio apparently. So quite a lot can be customized at this point.

Would be nice to see true themes I suppose (namely a configuration where you can manually set color values for background and text in particular) but overall it's pretty customizable at this point. It works pretty well as long as you stick to darker backgrounds, but if you want something lighter it could be a problem. Personally I'm a fan of dark backgrounds and the original image is actually kind of nice, so I made a really dark, desaturated version of it. (It's pretty tiny, so I'll share it here I guess.)
