Investigating USB storage is pretty minimal functionality, but near as I can tell, the app ignores USB storage devices.
App should
support multiple partitions
display filesystem labels properly
respond gracefully to on-the-fly insertion and removal of device.
Also, if user has selected app to open inserted USB by default, then USB insertion should open the file browser activity for the drive, as directly as possible.

Last part almost seems to be referring to Android functionality not app, if you want "direct" access, pull down the Android menu from top, find section saying a device is connected, press down arrow at top right corner, you will see "EXPLORE" and "EJECT". Correct for Android 10.
Ghost commander or Amaze apps are acceptable alternatives…
