In general resources have no restrictions on being duplicated. You can like an image multiple times for instance.

The API usually handles this fine and eliminates the duplicates.

One exception to this is tags, duplicate tags are returned from the API. However, with tags, there are no way to create duplicates through the normal API, but resources/merge can cause it to happen.
