Welcome to the MuseScore 3 Evolution Wiki!

About MuseScore 3.7.0 (a.k.a. MuseScore 3 Evolution)

The last official release of MuseScore 3 was 3.6.2 and this is still available for download from MuseScore's website. MuseScore 4 was released in December 2022 and is being continually developed. Some users still do not feel ready to migrate to MuseScore 4, often because of missing features which are important for their work, or because they dislike the new UI. And some users simply can't Mu4, due to older Hardware and/or Operating Systems which Mu4 doesn't support any longer (e.g. Windows 7 and 8.1).

So enter MuseScore 3.7.0. This is an on-going, inofficial development of 3.6.2 containing bug fixes and enhancements, including some features back-ported from MuseScore 4. The development of MuseScore 3.7.0 is hosted here on GitHub and is largely the work of Joachim 'Jojo' Schmitz, a well known contributor to many aspects of the MuseScore project*), and it remains fully open source so that other developers can make contributions.

Musescore 3.7.0 can be 'installed' alongside 3.6.2 and Mu4 (and Mu1 and Mu2) without any problems. MuseScore 3.7.0 and 3.6.2 do share their settings though, so a "Revert to factory settings" on one resets the other too, they cannot be run in parallel.

The name "Evolution" was chosen for a good reason: this is (sort of) a rolling release, so check for updates often, at least once a week ;-)

(Not much to see yet)

  • If you find bugs (esp. regressions vs. MuseScore 3.6.2), please report them here, of course only after having made sure a) you're on the latest version and b) it hadn't been reported already ;-).
  • If there's a feature or bug fix from Mu4 you're missing in 3.7.0, request them there too, please provide a link to the corresponding upstream PR.
  • Bugs and missing feature in Mu4 need to get reported upstream (at least there too and best first), at https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/new/choose. Once that's done, it could also get reported/requested here, with an appropropriate link.

If you'd like to supply fixes or features, do it here.
