[Discussion] Removal of Image-only Series #2154
Comments
Loose files feature is quite useful if you use Kavita outside Comics/Manga consumption. Another could be people who use Kavita to store artist galleries they have too, since those are ever updating. |
I have jpg's as covers alongside eBooks. now the books show up double... |
@HerrFrutti This is not about that. This is removing image based series entirely. For you, you can use a .kavitaignore placed at the root of the folder: https://wiki.kavitareader.com/en/guides/misc/ignoring-files-and-folders#what-is-kavitaignore |
Just commenting in favor of removing this feature. |
I'm against deleting this feature. While other cartoon projects don't care about raw image support, Kavita is almost the only one supporting it. This is a distinction. There may also be people who can manage images separately through compression and immediate folder name changes and file name changes. |
Please, keep this feature! I use Tachidesk to download my series, makes it very easy. I understand there are alternatives, But I have yet to get a setup as easy to use as Tachidesk + Kavita. |
What are the migration options for people using it? |
Something came to my mind, you might get loose artwork or publications that are not bound otherwise from artists that make sense to keep in the same place you store your manga collection, maybe even connecting them to series with relations. I'm an avid art collector, I keep most of my stuff in a personal danbooru instance, but not everyone is as crazy as I am or maybe even I would come to find a use for this. I could see myself setting up a promo material library in the future, come to think of it... |
I vote for keeping it but have it as a backburner objective. |
I vote for keeping it as I have thousands of manga and the like that are all loose images. As well as hundreds of thousands of images that are part of various galleries. if anything adding a new type of image gallery would be a good idea if at all possible. |
Vote for keeping (firm believer that unique features and/or more choices need to stay), however, if maintenance for you is too complicated that it would draw the joy of keeping this project alive, I vote therefore to drop the feature. |
Thank you all for your comments. I didn't realize it was such a heavily used feature. I decided to fix the issues and change how the image parser works. You can find a nightly build (docker only - v07.10.12) with the changes there and I would LOVE feedback from the users of this if there is a negative or positive effect. |
I want to take this moment to commend you for this approach. The way you went about this, regardless of the outcome of the discussion, was highly respectful towards users and the community as a whole. |
I just discovered this project and started researching it. Its nice to see a dedicated developer. respectful of the community and the users. |
Closing this issue, please provide feedback with #2460 on the Image library type and new parser. The next stable will be released within the next 2 weeks. |
Hello All, this is a discussion to see how many people are using this feature.
It has come to my attention that the Parser is not working correctly for Image libraries due to the new Scanner. After investigating, the level of effort to support it correctly does not seem worth it.
I took a brief look at the statistics and found there there were enough users using this feature to have an open discussion. Please comment if you are using this feature, why (versus using archives), and if you are effected by this bug:
#2133
Thanks
