Apostrophe converts to space. Gives funny pronunciation in TTS #7

Hi I've noticed that

e.g. I'm
...converts to...
'AY1', ' ', 'AH0', 'M'

This gives a funny pronunciation in the TTS I'm working on. It says the space instead of saying it as one sound.

Is this the normal behaviour?

Is there a workaround?
