A switch to use md as the default extension would be nice

Please correct me if you’re talking about something else, but isn’t it already the default extension? If you create a new file and save it, it will have a .md suffix.

Hmm, mine wants to save it as .markdown

Hmm. Maybe this is related to the UTI bug described in #7. I’ll close this as fixed for now, but please report further problems if the next release doesn’t fix this.

Reopening to track specifically the .markdown extension problem.

All new files save as .md for me in 0.1.1. No sign at all of the .markdown extension.

I've deleted everything in ~/Library that matched MacDown and then opened up the special build from #15 but when I press cmd+s I get Untitled.markdown as the save as name

These are apparently all of the files associated with MacDown. Did you get them all?

I did miss the lower cased ones initially (forgot to use the case insensitive flag), so I went another round but I'm still seeing .markdown with 0.1.1

Strange. What's your system config?

Up-to-date 10.9.3

I just can't seem to replicate your issue, even on 10.10. Especially given that you removed all traces and then installed a fresh copy and still had the issue. This is very odd. Does your console turn up anything interesting when you attempt to save a file in MacDown?

My guess is that another previously-installed application registered the markdown UTI on his system and is forcing the OS to map it to .markdown. It is indeed odd, never seen it happen anywhere else as far as I can tell. I’ll try to force the save dialog to use .md and see what happens.

I think I am having a similar issue:

10.9.3 with 0.1.1.

@mkiang Nope yours is identical to #15, which is similar but different.

Still getting a .markdown default.

I'm getting no default at all, it want to save as "Untitled". I'd like .md to be the default ending, rather than none.

Yeah, it defaults to having no file extension here too.

It would be nice if there were an option to chose the preferred default file extension, like in Mou.

The problem is that I’m having a hard time trying to replicate this. This only seems to happen to some machines, and I just can’t figure out why. 😞
