In-Game Shop / power ups #41

it would be nice to have an in-game shop (in the menu) to buy power-ups, level-ups or more buildings with the money you got when you finished a game. That would also make the gameplay a bit more interesting because you first have to win a game to buy new stuff rather than just upgrade it when you have the money for it.

What do you think about it? Any edits or suggestions?

what about expanding the spawn area with those things?

I think it's a good idea and not so hard to code, I will try to get a look to this.

You are talking about a persistent level up mechanic right?, might be a nice idea but might alienate new players (because they will have less tools/be underpowered).

So basically some sort of singleplayer campaign where you level up and unlock better weapons/buildings/etc ?

Thats the point in here - either we say collecting money and spending them on upgrades in the shop after finishing the game will give you these powerups OR make a campaign/free mode stylish game: campaigns will unlock the things and freeplay is just for fun.
shop would be interesting but campaign would also be a nice idea, especially for a RTS.
I think that this is the question before anybody starts thinking about implementing such a thing; Which way we should take? Or maybe we can make a mix of them both, either you play the campaigns and unlock them or use the shop if you got the money in the freeplay mode.

  • oh and sry for my english if sth isnt quite right, i'm german ;)

Maybe we can make it that we make an external shop in the titlescreen where people can buy new stuff for the coins they have when the game is over in free mode ? For example :

1st game : I win with 20 000 coins in 'inventory' + 20K
2nd game : I win with 10 000 coins in 'inventory' + 10 K
3rd game : I lose with 10 000 coins in 'inventory' + 5 K (half of coins bcz I lost )

== 35 K coins in 'inventory'

1 of the weapons cost 20 K so I buy it and I can use it in all future games I play ?

Will be hard to code I guess

well, yeah thats the idea behind it.
i know that its not easy to code (i am also a programmer :P), but i think it worths it.

oh and i think you made sth wrong in you calculation, it should be 35k ;)

typo sorry , It's pretty much worth it but it's going to be some work

I'll be honest, I don't really like this idea. It strays significantly from the 'real time' part of RTS, and makes multiplayer quickly unbalanced. If I decide to play with my friends in the future, I don't want to have an arsenal of 16 overpowered weapons [or whatever upgrades i might have] while my opponent only has the starting rifle, you know?

possibly seperating them into singleplayer mode only would work, or making them easier to get and avaliable in the in-game shop. that gets my vote.

I do not think this fits with the rest of the game. Plus, this kind of changes would require a lot of work. At the moment I think it's better to suggest small but effective changes.
