Datathon: a data archiving for equitability in microbial ecology

A Datathon is an event focused on the collection and archiving of 16S rRNA and ITS gene amplicon sequencing.

Its purpose is:

1. Facilitating the proper deposition and archiving of 16S rRNA and ITS gene amplicon data and metadata in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)'s Sequence Read Archives (SRA)

2. The generation of local microbiome databases for local and global reuse

To facilitate the sharing of data we have created two tutorials:

• To generate compatible metadata tables, when sequence data has already been archived in NCBI but will be included in the local database.

• To submit sequence data to the NCBI Portal
