It is now possible to replace flake8 with ruff, which runs faster and allows to configure it from pyproject.toml. Currently it not support all flake8 extensions that we use, but it grows fast and I am expecting that we can trade this missing (for now) functionality for speed of development.

Our goal is to migrate from flake8 to ruff, keeping as many current extensions as possible.
