I understand from here that Azure Blob storage container is generally available for ‘Production’ workloads.
However while working with the ‘azure-blob-storage:1.3-nanoserver-1809' docker image, we noticed a ‘License.txt’ file (also attached here for reference) placed in the docker container. Below points from the license file are not very clear to us –

2. TIME-SENSITIVE SOFTWARE.
a) Period. The software is time-sensitive and may stop running on a date that is defined in the software.
b) Notice. You may receive periodic reminder notices of this date through the software.
c) Access to data. You may not be able to access data used in the software when it stops running.

What time period is being talked about here? Where do I get this information from ?

3. PRE-RELEASE SOFTWARE. The software is a pre-release version. It may not operate correctly. It may be different from the commercially released version.

May you please clarify if this docker container is available for production use?

Hello @mail2hjain We see that the Microsoft Product Team has already responded to your feedback/query on October 30th, 2020.

We are posting the same consolidated response over here, so that other community members also get benefit from a similar question.

1.3 is the latest version that is available today for “Azure blob storage on iot edge”.
When you use the tag “latest” it should download the latest version available.

“Azure blob storage on iot edge” for Windows AMD64, Linux AMD64 and Linux ARM32 is generally available for production workload.
Linux ARM64 is still in public preview. You can find the information in the module pre-requisite document section, and is consistent with the iot edge support.

Please try the latest version and let us know if you see any issues.

Thanks @SatishBoddu-MSFT for the explanation. I understand that this is generally available for production.
My confusion was with respect to the license file shipped with the docker image which hints at this being in preview.
Therefore with this thread, I wanted to clarify if the license file present in the docker is up-to-date or not? And If it is not, then where can I find the relevant license terms. Thanks.

Thank you @mail2hjain for responding to this thread.

Did you get the latest version? wanted to check if this license text is still visible for the latest version or older versions?

Any screenshots will help me in this regard.

Hello @mail2hjain Below is the response from PG team to fix the License text in upcoming releases.

The pre-release statement is only for preview build and not for GA build.
We take the feedback and will update it in our next release.

We really appreciate your feedback on this matter and bringing this to our attention.

Please let us know if you need any further help in this matter.

@SatishBoddu-MSFT re-opening for additional clarification regarding this.

We want to use this docker image in our product's edge deployment which would run on customer's machine (Host OS: Windows server 2016). However a section of the above license text also indicate that the software shall not be used for any commercial or revenue-generating activities.

In view of this, may you please help me with following questions -

  1. Is there a way to procure the commercial version of this?
  2. May I get an updated license txt to submit to my internal sw clearance team?

I am asking this explicit question so as not to run into any license obligation issues at a crucial time in my project later. Thanks.
