Due to some discussion on the freetype-devel mailing list (here and here) I was reminded of the following issue (see this code in FreeType).
As confirmed by Greg Hitchcock (in 2013), the MS rasterizer doesn't allow the following graphics state variables to be modified by the CVT program:
dual_projection_vectors projection_vector freedom_vector rp[012] zp[012] loop
I think this should be documented.
BTW, dual_projection_vectors looks like a typo; I would expect dual_projection_vector.
