Commonly Used Windows Media File Attributes

[The feature associated with this page, Windows Media Player SDK, is a legacy feature. It has been superseded by MediaPlayer. MediaPlayer has been optimized for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft strongly recommends that new code use MediaPlayer instead of Windows Media Player SDK, when possible. Microsoft suggests that existing code that uses the legacy APIs be rewritten to use the new APIs if possible.]

Windows Media files may contain any number of attributes, including user-defined attributes.

If the file has been added to the library, additional attributes associated with the media type may also be available. See Audio Items or Video Items for those additional attributes.

For more info about the Windows Media file attributes, see the Windows Media Metadata Usage Guidelines.
