Installing from a CD While Online

[The feature associated with this page, Windows Media Player SDK, is a legacy feature. It has been superseded by MediaPlayer. MediaPlayer has been optimized for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft strongly recommends that new code use MediaPlayer instead of Windows Media Player SDK, when possible. Microsoft suggests that existing code that uses the legacy APIs be rewritten to use the new APIs if possible.]

Users can install Windows Media Player from a CD while connected to the Internet. When this happens, Windows Media Player setup locates the ServiceInfo document specified by the ServiceInfo command line parameter. If the Key attribute matches the DefaultService command line parameter, setup inspects the Install element to customize the setup process. Using the attribute values, setup displays your End User License Agreement (EULA) and your privacy statement, and also retrieves and installs your .cab file to the user's computer. For example, you can use this feature to install the latest version of a COM object that your online store requires.

After it is installed, Windows Media Player sets the initial online store using the key name you specified for the DefaultService command line parameter.
