This is a fast preview of starting to measure mods when run alone and even with no nodes build.

I just set up a server with

  • engine 5.5.0
  • mtg 5.5.0
  • only this mod, download today, and let run now 5 hours.

https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?p=408910#p408910

Even there is no any track or train build, no node crafted out of this mod, the mod uses 97% of all cpu time, that as used.

Is that normal ?

Maybe we wait until I did same test with other high lag ranked mods like petz and pipeworks to cpompare, but you might get a hint what direction I am hunting : server lag ... and most famous causing mods yet.

But reports and observations from server with ADVTrains are quite clear about this (Pandorabox most, and I guess also at LinuxForks.de)

I have forwarded your message onto our discuss mailing list, which you can view on the web here.

We should be able to reduce the amount done by advtrains in each globalstep by returning early if there are no tracks and no trains present. Currently a lot of time is wasted if there is nothing to actually do.

maybe a stepping activity,
with remember the amount of build, or active mapblocks
and adjust the priority (globalsstep) to work based on it

as I don't use this mod,
I also never looked in code deeper

maybe with continue the impact of other mods I want do this days
and if there are similar issues and basic code to learn from each other mod also.
