mostly because my current research is intersecting with the shell, little bit brainworms (why yes, i would like to run in vanilla 95/risc NT):
cabinet window messages; can we post i.e. CWM_GETPATH to an acquired hwnd of CabinetWClass, and get back a path? seems so; we'll get a PIDL, albeit in shared memory
i find it odd MS recommends SHCreateShellFolderView over SHCreateShellFolderViewEx, esp since you'd think the latter would have come later. the API is slightly different, mostly in callback handling, but seems close? (Geoff Chappell's research implies non-Ex is introduced in ~IE4.)
